
Sonakshi has represented clients in matters involving complex family law, business disputes, and employment law. Sonakshi appears in State Courts in Greater San Francisco Bay Area and engages with early conflict resolution mechanisms including Mediation. Sonakshi regularly assists attorneys with navigating legal disputes involving foreign jurisdictions, while helping domestic and international clients. Sonakshi engages with different jurisdictions and vastly different legal systems, particularly in Asia.
Sonakshi is a dual-qualified attorney with license to practice law in California (2019) and India (2013). Sonakshi has extensive experience in understanding cross-cultural nuances and serving clients with diverse backgrounds and identities including nationality, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation. At Triano & Byrne, Sonakshi adopts an empathetic approach while engaging with her clients -- taking time to understand individual needs and offer customized and effective solutions.
Sonakshi has an LL.M from UC Berkeley, School of Law with a Certificate of Specialization in International Law with High Honors in 2017. During law school, Sonakshi was a member of the Berkeley Journal of International Law and represented clients as part of the California Asylum Representation Clinic. Sonakshi has a J.D. equivalent (B.B.A. LL.B) from Symbiosis Law School, Pune, Maharashtra, India.
Sonakshi has a background in public international law and human rights. Prior to joining Triano & Byrne, Sonakshi worked with the UN Human Rights Commission and the International Labor Organization in Bangkok, Thailand on Business and Human Rights matters in the Asia-Pacific region. Sonakshi has litigation experience in New Delhi, India, having appeared in trial courts as well as appellate courts. Sonakshi also assisted a senator in India on policy reforms in areas such as decriminalization of homosexuality, juvenile justice, refugee protection legislation, and foreign policy matters.
Sonakshi is a Global Shaper with the World Economic Forum (Oakland Chapter). Sonakshi is fluent in two languages: English and Hindi, and understands Punjabi. Sonakshi loves collecting art during her travels and has travelled to Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
